What is the role of the larynx?

The larynx plays a crucial role in the respiratory system as both a voice box and an air passage. It is located at the top of the trachea and serves multiple functions, including the production of sound through the vibration of the vocal cords, which are located within the larynx. When air passes through this structure, it causes the vocal cords to vibrate, enabling speech and other vocalizations.
